One-of-a-kind Victoria waffle restaurant closes its doors

Open for more than a decade, it'll be dearly missed in the neighbourhood

West Coast Waffles—a gourmet waffle house sitting on Broad Street in downtown Victoria—has closed its doors this week. Though there was no official announcement from the restaurant, a sign has been placed in the window saying it has closed permanently.

Operating for over a decade in the neighbourhood, they were well known for both the quality and quantity of their unique waffle dishes suitable for any occasion, from breakfast to a delectable late evening snack.

Different than the average waffle house, West Coast Waffles allowed customers to customize their waffles right down to the flour (your choice of original, buckwheat or gluten-free), taking pride in using local and organic ingredients.

Not to mention flavours—options on their menu range from breakfast waffles topped with sunny-side eggs to jaw-dropping sweet and savoury creations like salmon waffles with red onion and cream cheese, ham and swiss, carrot cake and many others that typically don’t find themselves on your average breakfast menu.

They also kept late night hours—open until 4am on certain nights, late-night partygoers could stop by for a wholesome meal both more delicious and wholesome than the average McDonald’s stop (no hate to the beautifully salty shoestring fries that have made their way to many of our late night hangouts).

This iconic restaurant will be dearly missed within the community.
